Patch 0.5 - Bleeding Heart -
Give Blood! - Pete Townshed
Howdy friends! I’m extremely joyous to announce Patch 0.5, which I dubbed Bleeding Heart. With some final polishing and JavaScript shenanigans, it catapults KTTD into a higher quality arena of video games.
The most important change is the theme. The UI colors no longer represent the classic RPG Maker color scheme, rather it is tinted with my Heart’s overflowing blood that I outpour on my beloved KTTD. It is then overlaid by a simple Film Grain filter, which I am finally confident enough to have enabled by default. In case you don’t like it, you can now press escape at any time to open the Options dialogue, which was previously locked during cutscenes.
These “small” theme additions finally complete the 80s horror movie style I was going with, warranting the title of major update. In case anyone wishes to compare these styles, I am planning to keep the Windows version of Patch 0.4 around for download.
There’s also some quality of life improvements. Save files will now display the level you saved on. Additionally, the game now has full controller support, as the two interaction scenes will display a new alternative cursor (as JavaScript normally forbids manipulating the mouse cursor). The rest of the mini fixes basically aren’t worth mentioning.
And there’s some personally wonderful news outside of the game. An Alternative Team is not only a follower now, but left a review singing highest praises! These guys are behind some of the OG YTTD fangames. This includes a remake of Redemption Given by Fate. I remember following it around the time it started, how it inspired me, and how saddened I was to hear that it also got discontinued. Apparently, the new team made a public build that I never heard of, I gotta try that out now.
Well, or rather I would. One thing I haven’t updated is my update schedule. It is in the middle of the night because I got caught up on one detail of the game again (this time the controller support) and couldn’t wait to put it online.
Thank you to all my few “fans” who expressed their shared love for the game, without you I couldn't have pulled it to this point. But will there ever be another patch? That depends. KTTD is complete, everything that bothered me is either fixed or too difficult to change, and all remaining assets are now set into their proper place. My hope is that one day I’ll find a crafty significant other that wishes to work with me, and then it’ll be up to her if our time is best spent on this project for the better of the world. Until then, I shall remain with a Bleeding Heart.
